Replacing interior on Mk7 GTI

Just to play devil's advocate, my concern would be as going between the marks, 7 to 7.5, I wouldn't want to be liable if you swapped the interiors and the person who gets your old car with the newer cloths seats has an accident and the side airbags don't go off. After some digging they would work out it's had an interior swap and come knocking. Vice Versa if you had an issue in your newer car with older seats. Food for thought.

I did it on an e90 once, the only problem I had was that the battery needed disconnecting to fit the front seats and seat belt clips in the front, they were all wired and had plugs, I thought I had all finished so connected up the battery again only to discover warning lights on the dash, I had forgotten to put the plugs back into the seat belt holders and even after disconnecting the battery again and re plugging them in the warning lights remained. had them reset at the dealers.

Given 2 similar cars of similar spec, its plug and play. There'll be a wiring harness underneath the seat that will unplug from one and into the other easily. No coding should be needed.

That said, considering the 2 cars will be several years apart in age, its not inconceivable that there would be some wiring incompatibilities.

Why not just buy a car with leather already fitted as standard. I did.

The leather on the FL (7.5) looks vastly different to the mk7 leather.
Vastly nicer I might add. The 7.5 with the 7 leather will look very suspect in years to come when selling the 7.5 on again.

nigw, I get your reasoning and I reckon the swap would be fairly easy but have you also considered an aftermarket re-trim in higher quality leather for the cloth specced 7.5?
An immaculate set of cloth seat covers has sell on value to offset costs.

The 7.5 is red pattern perforated throughout, and it has a strong red accent line all the way round.

7 is smooth black throughout and mild broken line accents.
