Anyone had EGR valve issues with there GTD?
Ive just scanned a mates GTD with 45k on as it keeps going into limp home mode and flashing the glow plug light up with another warning light.
Only faults logged were EGR valve ones.
Any idea of cost to fix and can it be cleaned similar to the older PD ones?

I have just had my EGR fixed about 6 hours ago. Went on a road trip with the other half and the car decided to go into limp mode with the flashing glow plug light (engine management warning) 300 miles from home.
We ended up having to call the AA, book a night's accommodation last minute to get it fixed the next day when we really needed to get back home to see my mum who's in hospital. The whole job took 5.5 hours and costed £811, £450 for a genuine OEM EGR valve and the rest was labour.

What error codes are you getting Geoff?

I saved it to his memory stick so not sure now Keith was a few months back.
It was the EGR valve failed, he had it changed at the main dealer and VW paid for iirc half the part cost. He won't tell me how much it cost him though but I bet it was a large chunk.
Hes since traded the car in for a new kia ceed :undecided: Ill never understand some people.

Did you fix it? I had this on mu gt tdi. It would go into limp mode about once a week. When cycled the ignition it would then be fine. Spoke to my mate who is a master tech at Skoda and he said problems are common as muck and there is a manufacturing defect.
It's buried on the back if the engine so hard to see, so I unbolted the o/s driveshaft from the gearbox and managed to get the cover off then clean with brake cleaner and lubricate the roller with some grease BMW use on theirs and not had any problems since. Hope it helps as JayGTD said its expensive to replace!
