Heater Bypass Valve... How to... with pics!!!

i was fed up with poor heaters so i took the plunge in the modification.
it was quite easy really...

youll need two small lengths of 22mm copper tubing
(about 4in and 5in)
a screw driver
some water and anti-freeze

heres what you have to remove:



heres what you put in its place:



the finished look:



this modification WORKS A TREAT, the heaters are UNBEARABLY hot too!!
i'll keep ya posted if my heater matrix goes, as its the original one from 1990.

Dont forget to massage your hoses a little when bleeding the system.

wouldnt it be a better idea to replace with a new bypass valve than cowboy it :huh:

Dont forget to massage your hoses a little when bleeding the system.

but be sure not to burn youself ahem ,,..... :laugh:

Yeah if you could get new ones. They dont make them anymore mate. You can get 2nd hand ones but they will probably be just as busted as your own ones.

Yep, they are all prone to failing.

yeah i had to bin mine at weekend, tried bristol vw but they rekon they stopped selling them years ago.
an heater still dosnt work now.  :sad:

Ive just done this to a valver.

New valves didnt even help! Heaters are warm now and the colant system is running as it should :smiley:
