Hello
I have a 2018 Golf GTI Mk7 PP with Brescia 19" alloys.
Please can anyone tell me the size of the space saver spare wheel?
Should the tyre be 19" to match the regular wheels or do VW actually supply an 18" - to use with the standard 18" wheels AND the 19"?
Thank you.

They are all the same - the different aspect ratio of the tyres on 18/19" wheels gives the same rolling radius, so the same space saver fits all GTI models, irrespective of original wheel size.

Thank you for the peace of mind - I hope I never need to use it! (that would be the wheel of course)...

Had to drive 200 miles on an Astra space saver once, 2/3 of which was motorway. Takes a bit of getting used to especially under braking. Worst bit was doing 50 mph on the motorway and getting tailgated/honked at by HGVs who did not realise why I was only doing 50 (space save on front near side). Still, better than a can of glue....

If manufacturers did a risk assessment on the use of a space saver by their customers they would surely conclude that a full size spare should be provided. I know it's no longer in fashion, weight/C02, changing wheel on h/s and all that - at the very least they should provide a 'Limited to 50 mph' sign for you to put in the back window.

Could you not have got the damaged or punctured tyre repaired or replaced rather than drive 200 miles on a space saver?

You're supposed to put the space saver on the rear not the front.

You are also supposed to do no more than 50 miles on a space saver at a max speed of 50mph.

I was aware of the 50 mph limit but not the 'rear only' issue - and neither was the AA man who automatically came to see me as it was a hire car. Late on a Sunday night, had little option but drive home - was a blow out, tyre shredded to bits.

You can use the ‘ temporary spare wheel ‘ on the drive axle as long as not driven further than 200kms.
