BRAKE PROBLEM
« on: 08 December 2017, 18:39 »
I have a slightly unusual brake problem on my Golf Turbo mk4. i have just replaced the discs and pads on the front and    everything works as it should. Took the car for a MOT but they were unable to complete the brake test as the passenger side front locks up under test on there rig.(they tried the test 4 times) The mechanics in the garage were baffled as to the cause. Has anyone had this happen to them or does anyone know of any possible solutions. like i say the car drives and brakes perfectly so its a bit of a mystery, any solutions would be appreciated, thanks markwg

I would have maybe said it's a caliper binding, but if you say it drives fine then must be related to the brake test itself when the car is on the rig as you say. This leads me to it possibly being related to the ABS system, if they're doing the brake test and it's locking up but not "jittering" like it should? Just a thought, but does sound like an odd one...

Try another garage firstly, rule out an issue with rig.

It'll be a binding caliper.
ABS issue should flag up as fault code.
Rig being the issue..... they'd have issues on other cars too.
