There's only one type as far as I know - the narrower one that looks like a direct replacement for the plastic one in manual cars. The plastic one in DSG cars is a bit wider but this narrower one works fine (on DSG as well as manual cars)

As Joe says, AFAIK there's only one type produced. If you look at the factory plain plastic units, you will notice that the DSG version is slightly wider than the manual version.

So what you end up with is a slightly narrower version (as per the photos), but yes, they fit perfectly in a DSG car. Just note that sometimes the mouldings on the backside (the "hooks" where it clips into the car body), need a bit of trimming to open them up fully (like the OEM ones), otherwise if you try and force it on without trimming, you can sometimes break the clips.

I did trim it but still broke the bottom clip (obviously didn't trim it enough!). It holds on with the top clip and screw though and feels secure enough.

My (new to me) 2016 GTI. Driven down from Norfolk to Kent this weekend having picked it up from a far away dealer, and this morning I had my first commute to work in it. It is so much quieter and smoother to drive than a bog standard Golf TDI. Love it!

I'm picking up my lovely new GTI on Saturday (tomorrow is gonna drag soooo badly); could someone who has collected one recently let me know what should be present and correct please? I'm thinking beyond obvious things like 2 keys, handbook, paperwork.

Are there cables for connecting phones / media etc etc?

Any other heads up much appreciated.

You won't get any cables for media (i didn't anyway) as you only need a USB lead.

Check for;-

2 keys (both should have engraved chrome tops for GTi/GTD/GTE/R models)
Finance documents
Mats & flaps if you ordered them 
Fuel if you asked for it
Service pack if you ordered it
Check if service regime set correctly (longlife or time/distance)
All options ordered present and correct
Survey car inside and out for signs of damage / repairs
SD card for sat nav
Handbook / manual (service record is digital these days)
Breakdown cover
Registration docs if purchased or lease agreement for PCH.
Free keyring
Soft toy
Bunch of flowers
Premium iPhone or USB cable
Plastic 12v socket cover

I would make sure if you have an iPhone you get the VW cable for free.
