Have you also got a bottle of Fairy Liquid for the bodywork in your car cleaning kit?

Don't worry I use proper stuff for the body work, CIF does a pretty good job without scratching. The pitting you see is from the previous owner, that about the best it will get.

Took the GTi out yesterday for a long round trip to the Trafford Centre from our home near Cambridge for some Christmas shopping. Approx 185 miles on the way there, good traffic and steady 70-75mph cruising resulted in over 40mpg without even trying:

Was hoping to match or better it on the way home but closures on the A1 and the resultant diversions had other ideas!

2011 GTI DSG 5dr, Tornado Red, 18" Monza Shadows, Heated Leather, RNS-510, MDI, Bilstein B16 PSS10 Coilovers, Ohlins DCC Cancellation Kit, Audi TT-RS Front Top Mounts, Whiteline 24mm Rear ARB, Michelin Pilot Sport 4, 034 Motorsports Street Density Engine and Gearbox Mounts, Audi R8 Red Coil Packs, NGK BKR7EIX, Millers 5W-40 Nanodrive

That is very good. Can manage close to that on my trips from Newark to Truro with traffic and warm weather permitting. Find that there is quite a hit with consumption in cold weather though. The A1 always seems to have accidents and road closures these days between Peterborough and Leeds.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

Good work Seabrook, I get similar on my mine on a long run, sometimes I`ve seen 44 mpg, but not often.

I had a look under  my Mk6 yesterday as I have a noise when setting off.

It sounded like an exhaust bracket moving in the rubber hanger. I`ve wiggled and wiggled the exhaust but it`s not that.

Maybe an engine mount?  I don`t know and I guess I`ll have to take it to the garage for further investigation.

The double rubber hanger at the front splits. Did you check there. It may also be a heatshield rattle as the round spring clips that hold it rot away.

The MPG the GTI can do when you want it is why I never have bought an R.

Thanks, I was going to have a good look but it`s been raining all afternoon. I`ll check at the weekend all being well.
