air con clutch

 hi guys,i've finally got my aircon working cold,my query is does the pulley clutch stay engaged whenever the engine is running regardless of which temp the climatic control is set on.the clutch is engaged now as soon as i start up.     cheers any help welcome

I'm no expert on climatic but I'd say yes as it will always be trying to reach the goal temp.

Turn the climatic off completely and see if the clutch is still engaged. You can also do this via VAG COM in the engine measuring blocks, it's something like 023. It will give you a an AC on/off state
