Buying a 8V GTI

I know ive owned a CL for almost 9 months now, And a lot of you know im not looking for a 8V. But i just want to know what sort of things i should look for when buying a GTI

As there a 8V im guessing a lot of them will of been ragged, Are there any tell tail signs to look for? Rust in certain areas that will give me a hint that the cars actually a dog?? If anyone has any hints for me when buying a GTI it would be greatly appritiated  ;D

kniterider's 8v for ?300 is an absolute bargain mate and you know it will have been looked after, surely someone can lend you the dosh  :)

Nope, Insurance due in june, Owe my mum ?400 and i only earn ?5000 a year. Im gonna be working all through summer to save the money for a new car. My mum wont lend me the cash to buy the 5 door 8V :(

Whats all this digifant stuff, Somthing to do with 2 types carbs on different 8V models. I want one to do a lot of heavy modification to the motor and i know that only one of the carbs have a K&N replacement on them sooo what sort should i be looking for?

no GTi's have carbs they are all fuel injection

early 8v's are K-Jet are mechanical injection
late 8v's are digifart electronic injection

get a late 92 run out model which has all the exterior & interior trim of a 16v

K-jet was built with performance in mind, Digi is economy based

So which one would be best to go for? do they make induction kits for both kinds? And at what year did they change? Im looking for a Later model of Golf, Preforbally a F reg like my CL.
