mk2 tdi
« on: 10 February 2014, 14:20 »
Morning all.

Pretty much got my 20vt mk2 where I want it to be so going to throw some time at the next project.

My wife has an Ibiza Tdi which I replaced with a mk3.5 cab. the ibiza is going to donate its running gear to convert a mk2.

I wasn't really ready to start the project but a suitable car came up on facebook for £150 so it seemed silly not buying it.

It is a bit tatty and needs a rear quarter repair but other than a few bits of trim it should be ok after a tidy up and a few bits of paint.

The plan is to tune the diesel to similar performance to a 16v gti.

keep everything nice and tasteful, no visible intercoolers, big exhaust or anything. Classy wheels (thinking mims or bbs ra's), standard interior, gentle lowering job.  Should be a winner

Been a while but progress (ish has been made)

Slight change of direction initially, a mate needed a cheap car to run while he is doing a bam conversion in his scirocco so he is going to MOT this then run it for a few months before we do the tdi swap.

We moved it from its temporary accomodation last night, much to the delight of my parents ( i promised them i would have it at my house in a few weeks...)

It is now at my mate's garage.

New suspension going on today as it is currently on chopped springs. wont be low but should drive a hell of a lot better.

Vacuum pipes are split so replacing those today.

Front wheel bearings need doing

Engine service being done today.

The floors and sills look very solid thankfully so it is looking like its going to turn into a decent little car.

So engine serviced, front brakes replaced, suspension swapped, front wheel bearings replaced . Quick clean and an offer up of a 15" wheel.

What a difference a day makes .

Needs a windscreen then it's off for mot.

Rear arches are very soft

this is how it sits now, fitted a set of mims

I want the front a bit lower but it is eventually going to have a heavier engine in it so tempted to leave it as it is for a while
