Inside needs a bloody good clean! Don't pull as nice as the valver but still quite well. Plans are just a small drop on springs and then a set of 16" monty 2's. not planning anything mad for it as gunna be driving it a lot more then looking at it lol. What'd you think?

OMG the dreaded 2.0 8v   - the worst ever engine made by VW.. does it use oil ?

other than that, looks great

Now that's a bargain for the car and their ride is pretty comfortable too, I would say you got a good deal on that one.
I see it even came with a birds signature on the rear drivers side fender..

Yh I know! It's not the best engine, but couldn't say no for the price, did buy it with a 1.8t conversion in the future in mind

My dads MK4 GTI had this engine, he bought it new. it had premature piston wear and a replacement engine by VW, the second engine did the same, theirs a known fault with them. tell tale sign is high oil usage

I replaced my dads with a 1.8T AUQ engine from a MK4 Anniversary (180 bhp standard) and also fitted him the 6 Speed box too.

its safe to say, we hate the 2.08v haha

Yh I remember reading about the engine conversion on your dads car. Is there any other signs of this? As I've not had it long enuff to see if it uses oil. What's needed for a 1.8t conversion? Engine, box loom, ecu, keys?

Title: Re: The new daily
Post by: F17BAD on 04 June 2013, 21:36
He used to get the Check engine light alot on the second engine, just before we ripped it out and scrapped it. On turning the crank you could hear one ofthe pistons leakin air !!

For the conversion, you need the Engine, Box, fly, clutch etc, all ancillaries..bla bla bla

engine side loom, and the loom from ECU to where it goes into the bulkhead. then theirs a few wires that need splicing but its pretty much plug and play

That's alright, think I could manage that. Think ima run it as is for a while, but I'd rather do an engine change then buy a shiny set of coilovers and wheels

Post by: F17BAD on 04 June 2013, 22:03
too right mate

you need the Downpipe too, its fixed to the Cat in 1 piece as standard, and depending what engine you get, you might need the Accelerator pedal, and some of the Hydro pipes if you go for a 6 speed box

we used a Jetex exhaust for a 20VT too...  so the bore is correct etc..  the 2.0 system is not quite as big as a 20vt

If it is a daily and running all ok, why go to all the hassle / expense of a 1.8t conversion

Yes the 2.0 is not the greatest engine ever made but for a daily it will do.

Factor in the cost of conversion and you may as well purchased a 1.8t in the first place.

Or just 1.8T the MK3, get rid of the bora and use that as a daily.
Why u want a daily just out of interest?

Not wanting to rain on your parade Murraymint, but its not screaming "tune me" is it? and 175k miles??? autotrader is full of high mileage petrol Bora's at this price. Clean it up, sell it, make a couple of hundred quid, save the money you were spending on the 1.8t conversion, buy a mk4 golf tdi with a great engine and monty's already on and without a boot and ugly front end and away you go.

Theres a reason why the diesel mk4's hold their value and the petrol ones don't.

Cheers, I did hope to get more but that's life. Combination of things, needed a more sensible daily, and have nowhere to keep it so I had to let it go for what it sold on ebay for.

With the golf gone and I must say not missed, I had nothing to do today, so thort I'd give the bora some love, started by washing it for the first time since buying it  :embarrassed:

I then took the 2.0 badge and number plate surrounds off

Then gave the engine bay a quick clean

You can see what it was like on the first page.

Thort I'd take this photo as I must live on the most colourful street in England!!

Ah Josh I have to say it is not my cup of tea. Too boring. Don't waste your money on a 1.8T. Bora are too a penny. Get a Mk2 or Mk3 again.

Unless its a 90s spec oak green 16v il never own another mk2, and don't think il buy another mk3, think I'm over them now, still like them, but bord of them.

Dw I'd only 1.8t it if the engine blew up

I said that I won't do much to this but after lookin at a few lowered boras I think I'd like it lowered slightly with some nice 17s

Here's the differences between the golf and bora splitters

Soo the bora is still going... Just. The money for wheels and suspension went on this

Love it!! So much more fun, does 0-60 in 4secs and 80mpg!! Little cold atm tho

I think the head gasket is starting to go in the bora, so my plan for it is drive it till it dies then scrap it and use the bike for a while

Baught thule roof bars for the bora.

I've got a thule fairing from my old mk3

(http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h364/murrayminf/F14269A3-9D7A-42B6-A176-8EEF46D0D5B4_zps02ituiqn.jpg) (http://s1106.photobucket.com/user/murrayminf/media/F14269A3-9D7A-42B6-A176-8EEF46D0D5B4_zps02ituiqn.jpg.html)

But it's too narrow for the bora so today at work I made a longer centre section out of aluminium

A little update. I'm currently doing some much needed work on the car atm. Few weeks ago I did a oil flush and change. Last week I referbed the steel wheels and had new rubber fitted all round.

Gave the car a clean yesterday and took a few photos

(http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h364/murrayminf/DSC_0606_zpsa5txi75b.jpg) (http://s1106.photobucket.com/user/murrayminf/media/DSC_0606_zpsa5txi75b.jpg.html)

(http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h364/murrayminf/DSC_0607_zpsyvfcgcxl.jpg) (http://s1106.photobucket.com/user/murrayminf/media/DSC_0607_zpsyvfcgcxl.jpg.html)

(http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h364/murrayminf/DSC_0608_zpscpg3byar.jpg) (http://s1106.photobucket.com/user/murrayminf/media/DSC_0608_zpscpg3byar.jpg.html)

Also got a thule sticker for the ally fairing, think it finishes it off nicely
(http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h364/murrayminf/DSC_0610_zpspfgxvsek.jpg) (http://s1106.photobucket.com/user/murrayminf/media/DSC_0610_zpspfgxvsek.jpg.html)

(http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h364/murrayminf/DSC_0612_zpskrd0jvig.jpg) (http://s1106.photobucket.com/user/murrayminf/media/DSC_0612_zpskrd0jvig.jpg.html)

I also thort I'd have a go at freshening up the crappy black scratched centre console

(http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h364/murrayminf/DSC_0620_zpsfhpfhlvw.jpg) (http://s1106.photobucket.com/user/murrayminf/media/DSC_0620_zpsfhpfhlvw.jpg.html)

Next job is discs and pads all round and a new handbrake cable, then a new exhaust, only a standard steel one I'm afraid

Cheers
Josh
