Do you think its worth using a trim removal tool to lever it up? By hand it feels welded on.

As the top bit that covers the jet had half broken off mine I sprayed some wd40 down the sides. Try moving the side outwards alittle and move it up and out at the same time once you get it moving. You should be able to see how its held by looking at the new one and comparing were it goes on the wiper arm.

Quick update, I think the best way is to use an angled trim removal tool and lever up from the top or bottom which will release the two clips that hold it on.

Since you've mentioned yours I've noticed mine is very sun faded too. Might get a new one too. Has anyone tried treating their other black plastics like the triangle near the wing mirrors or the window seals? All looking a bit grey.

For my next problem; has anyone encountered a smell of petrol after driving and then parking?

Its coming from the rear quarter near on the side of the filler cap.

See this post http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=275939.0

Do you know where this breather pipe is located?

Err no, there are no engine lights on but I do have a cheap bluetooth reader I can find (somewhere) and install Torque light to check. What codes or engine lights did you have?

In the meantime I have installed a new fuel cap, the rubber seal was slightly broken in two places, just like in the link above.

Also, can you give me some more details on your purge value location or part number?

PO441 was the error code & the purge valve is right at the front of the engine, you cant miss it lol
