Now that’s impressive David! I wasn’t trying at all on Monday when I took that shot but even with trying I haven’t seen an average above 43 - 44ish. I tend to average 32 - 34 most of the time.

Car trouble today; engine management light, rough idle, white smoke.

Being recovered, any ideas? I guess a chain problem would mean no start.

Wouldn't think so from VW unless you have the extended warranty.  If you have used the same Dealers they may give you a good will for loyalty but it may still be more expensive than a specialist would be. A good master tech and/or diagnistics will be able to diagnose the cause.

Dealer states: problems with cylinder 3 and 4, possibly locked injector?

However, fault cannot be replicated from cold this morning, so collecting tomorrow with the £60 diag fee.

So, what causes this? bad petrol, carbon deposits, failing injectors?

Should I be thinking of paying £350 for the VW extended warranty?

Ask them for a copy of the diagnostic report as it should have logged fault codes. Then from the fault codes you could find a lists of maybe probable causes.
A vw specialist maybe a better bet than a main dealer as they will probably have seen this before and will know how to diagnose faults

Just got back from Cornwall - average speed 61mph and 38.1mpg on 332miles. Started on a full tank and saying 100miles left! Just about all on dual carriageway and motorway so fairly steady cruising but some stop start in M5/M6 roadworks. Think you may have a problem Chaliemk6. Could it be a strong right foot?
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.
