Golf Mk5 vw-spec'd upgrades for audio.....
« on: 05 February 2009, 12:35 »
Hello,

Just looking at the potential upgrade path for when I get my Mk5 GTi. I haven't got it yet, as the audio aspect is as important to me as the car.

I've got a couple of questions really -

1. The various upgrade packs supplied by VW - are they any good?
2. Who makes them for VW - is it still Blaupunkt?
3. Is there a Bose pack for the Golf?
4. I heard rumour of a Dynaudio pack - is this true?
5. For Qs 3 &4 what are the spces for these systems (if available!)
6. By all accounts the standard system is woeful at best. Is it down to the Head Unit or speakers, or both?
7. Head Units - a minefield! LOL!! Is it worth going for a car with the MDF2 (realistically I'm looking at an 05/55 plate) or go for the RCD300 (or ideally 500)

I don't need the Ipod pack because from what I've read, it's rubbishly implemented!!LOL! Besides, I've got an Ipod Touch, so just need input :)

I've currently got an Audi S4 with the Bose system, and I love it. Whilst not the most accurate, it makes the listening side of my driving highly enjoyable!! (The Bi-Turbo engine does the rest ;) )

Any input would be fantastic!!! :)

Dan

speaker wise you can fit whatever you like
but you will also need speaker adapters to fit aftermarket speakers as the originals are a moulded unit

Thanks for this - looks like a very nice OEM unit.

Anybody got some thoughts on the rest of my confusion?

Nice one mate :)

The Bose upgrade - is it comparable to the Audi/Bose setup?

With reference to the Dynaudio stuff for the other models, are they inter-changeable between models ;)

How bad are the actual head units?
Would a speaker upgrade do the "do"?

Dan :)

the bose upgrade is a similar spec to audi's
the dynaudio is not really interchangeable(limited size speakers and dsp units)
the factory units are ok at best
you will always get a far superior sound from good quality aftermarket equipment
