Creaky clutch cable.....
« on: 30 March 2010, 09:36 »
Since we got our Mk3 a about a month ago the clutch cable is a bit stiff & creaky, thought it may of been cos the car had been stood for a bit before we bought it, but it's not really improved with driving.....
Does this mean it's on it's way out or will some of that 'magic engine spray' stuff (ha, it seems to fix lots of things...) on it sort it out?
I had one snap on me before, not good fun!

Better to fit a new cable, if left you can snap the release lever in the gearbox.

If it is creaking then it is seizing up, better to replace it asap then leave it to snap or break the release arm.

hmm, it's not seizing up or anything......just funds are low at the minute
Don't spose a new cable's too dear though, or tricky to fit? (obviously it won't be me doing the work though! HA!)

It is self adjusting but with underbonnet heat etc they dry out, yes you can if you wish fit a manual adjusting spec from a 1.8 I believe.

are they difficult to change?
Wouldn't be fun if it was easy, but does it have to be this much fun?
