No mode button at gear area
« on: 13 March 2018, 23:34 »
Hi,
Sorry if this has been covered before, but I picked up a 2016 GTI this evening, however it doesn't have a mode button down beside the gear lever. I thought all GTIs had this enabling access to adjust the settings of the car. Does the mode button on the steering wheel do the same this.
Thanks M.

Hi there ! Congrats on your purchase. To answer your question , no the mode button on the left of your steering wheel controls the cruise control/speed limiter only. If you do not have a mode button to the left of your gear stick then your car doesn’t have the driver profile selection (mode button) is the car a performance pack  model or the standard GTi?

Sorry it is a manual Performance Pack.
Have you tried finding the driving mode selection through the infotainment system? Has your car got DCC?(dynamic chassis control)

Iirc Irish cars didn’t come with the driver profile mode option as standard. It had to be specced.

This is for R’s but applies to GTI.

The button on the steering wheel does not give access to driver profiles.

JoeGTI on here will probably be able to give you more info.

I couldn't find anything in the infotainment system for adjusting, and no it doesn't have he Dcc.
It is also an English car.

Could it have come from Ireland originally?

I checked the log book and it doesn't show anything about coming from Ireland and it has only ever been registered in GB.

Rep of Ireland GTI’s didn’t (still don’t? -  not sure about the 7.5) get that Mode button unless the adaptive chassis (DCC) was spec’d.
So I guess it’s possible that it’s originally a ROI spec car. An ROI car would also originally be fitted with a KPH-only speedo although this could have been swapped for mph clocks relatively easily.

Hi Joe, the 7.5 GTi’s here have the mode button even without DCC.
